Amsterdam Museum

Amsterdam through the centuries

The Amsterdam Museum tells the compelling story of the Dutch capital – from its early days as a fishing village through the Golden Age and until the present.

Through its rich collection of art, household objects and archaeological discoveries, the Amsterdam Museum gives a detailed impression of the fortunes of Amsterdammers today and days gone by.

Using interactive displays and multimedia exhibits, the exhibit ‘Amsterdam DNA’ brings the stories of our people and our city to life. This exhibit is available in English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

The building that houses the Amsterdam Museum was once an orphanage. In the Little Orphanage Exhibit, you can discover what life was like for young orphans in the 17th Century – great for families with children.
