The Hermitage is the Dutch branch of the world-famous Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. It’s interesting to note that Czar Peter the Great had a special relationship with Amsterdam, having lived here for several years.
This museum displays selections of works and artifacts from the Hermitage collection in Russia. This includes: paintings, graphic works, sculptures, applied art and archaeological discoveries.
In addition to guided tours, there are also special events inspired by Russian arts and history such as classical concerts, art talk and other performances. There is a children’s section with workshops for kids. All this has helped to establish the Hermitage Amsterdam as one of Amsterdam’s major museums.
