Vincent van Gogh is one of the Netherlands’ most famous artists. His Impressionist painting style is known the world over and more than 125 years after his death, Vincent’s life and work still serve as a huge source of inspiration to many.
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is one of the world’s most popular museums, attracting visitors from every corner of the globe. It is home to more than 200 of Vincent’s paintings, 500 of his drawings and 800 of his letters. In addition, the museum’s outstanding collection also features around 200 paintings by Vincent’s contemporaries.
Visitors will instantly recognise Van Gogh’s renowned landscapes, self-portraits and still lifes. The museum provides opportunities to track his artistic development and compare his paintings to works by other 19th-century artists – those who inspired him and those who drew inspiration from him.
In recent years, the museum has organised numerous temporary exhibitions, placing Van Gogh’s acclaimed art alongside masterworks by his peers, including Gauguin, Munch, Malevich, Kandinsky and Vallotton. The museum offers guided tours and an award-winning multimedia guide, while it also organises regular workshops, children’s activities and special events.
