One of Amsterdam’s classic venues, Melkweg is a vibrant concert hall and cultural center, just behind Leidseplein. It offers a world of live music, club nights, photography, cinema and festivals.
Originally a dairy factory, Melkweg means “the Milky Way” in English – and played a major role in Amsterdam’s 1970s “cosmic” counterculture. Today, the Melkweg is known for its great sound and eclectic programming.
The complex features the 3 music halls, a theater, a cinema and a restaurant. The intimate Oude Zaal, where bands like U2 and Nirvana first played. The Max easily fills to capacity for when international artists come to town. The Rabozaal is a modern hall for seated concerts.
